Harvest DInner this Sunday!

Local Harvest Dinner
Sunday October 21, 3:30 – 5:30 p.m.

On October 21, 2012 T’sSpace in collaboration with Farm Lot 59 and beachgreens are hosting the 3rd Annual Local Harvest Dinner.  This event is designed to celebrate the nourishing organic, local food that farmers, gardeners, chefs and distributers bring to our tables and offer an opportunity to educate and empower our community on the importance of eating and supporting healthy, organic and locally harvested food and products.  We hope to provide an opportunity for you to connect with the greater community and with one another in a casual, intimate setting.

We invite you as a Long Beach resident, local organic farmer, community gardener, chef or sustainable food provider to join our table.  We ask that you bring a dish using local, organic, and sustainably grown ingredients prepared from your harvest or local food provider to serve minimum 6 - 8 people, a place card describing your dish and where it came from.  We also invite you to bring surplus organic produce or products from your harvest to share at the Trading Post (a table for people to exchange their harvests & products like sweet potatoes and jam). We are inviting the community at large to do the same.  We want this event to be an experience where people leave feeling empowered to make sustainable choices in their life, form personal relationships with the people who are growing and distributing food here in Long Beach, eat healthy nourishing food and connect to our community.  Feel free to bring materials about your farm, garden or services.
We will share this communal meal, potluck style, at the beautiful new farm: Farm Lot 59
located at 2712 California Ave, Long Beach on Sunday, October 21st, 3:30 -  5:30pm.

To RSVP - send an email to: tanya.quinn@communeloveprosper.com or call: 562.824.0453.

Sincerely,

Tanya Quinn

Thanks - first party was awesome!

Hello Long Beach Locals-

Last weekend's party was outstanding. I had such a great time and I'm pretty sure everyone else did too. The food was amazing and the music was so fun. Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate our local farm. Let's do it again next year!

Days are getting shorter and summer is winding down. Despite all the setbacks we did manage to produce over a 1,000# of heirloom tomatoes out of just 3 tiny rows and lots of other delicious produce. We are very grateful to have made it through our very first growing season.

We are going through some changes down on the farm. We planted all our fall crops and were completely wiped out by a nasty beetle. I tried to fight this bug organically but I cannot get it under control. Its called a Harlequin Beetle and has caused major damage to farmers all across the country. Its a nasty stink bug with no predators and it multiplies like mad. It really enjoyed our beautiful napa cabbage and all our broccoli's. I'm currently replanting different crops for fall. Onions, garlic, more peas, flowers, artichokes. This spring the farm is going to be very abundant.

But until then I am putting our weekly Farm Box on hold for the winter. We will relaunch the CSA in Spring 2013. I'll be posting about it when we open for sign ups. Sometime around the new year. There might be a brunch happening around this time too. Its going to be delicious.

We are hosting our 3rd annual Harvest Dinner on the farm. October 21st from 3:30-5:30. All the information will be posted in the calendar section of our website. This is a potluck communal meal using local, organic, sustainable ingredients. This is the 3rd year and every year the food is more and more amazing. People really pull out all the stops on this meal. Bring your won bowl, chair, BYOB and come down. Its fun.

And lastly we are currently building Farmstand 59. We are working Saturday's to get it finished. If you are interested in helping us build come on down. Bring your favorite tool.

Thanks again for all the support on and off the farm.

Build Day this Saturday and a Party!

Hello Long Beach Locals-
This Saturday is our 2nd Saturday build day. We will be tending the growing field, planting fall crops and beginning the farm stand build. We will be working from 9-3.
We are wrapping up our summer season. I am so proud of the quality of beautiful organic produce we produced. Our weekly Farm Boxes were full to the brim with heirloom tomatoes, summer squash, herbs, peppers, melons and lots more of summers bounty.
We are gearing up for fall and taking commitments for our CSA. Each box is $30 and we ask for a 1 month commitment. You can pick up weekly or biweekly here on the farm. If you have any questions or want to sign up please email or call us.
And speaking of being grateful. Farm Party on September 22nd from 2-6. Come enjoy some music while local chefs cook up our farm fresh produce and a lamb from New Frontier Family Farms out in Chino. We welcome all friends, volunteers, donors and supporters. If you have not yet been to the farm this is a great opportunity to do so.
Thanks and see you on the farm.

Its a party on May 10th. Come support the farm!

May 10th shindig is coming up quick

I'm really looking forward to our party at Keesal Young and Logan next Thursday, May 10th. We have extended the rsvp until this Friday May 4th. This event is being donated by KYL to help us raise money for a much needed fence. If you have been following us on facebook or the blog you saw the damage the critters have done to the farm. The coyotes and wild dogs have eaten our hens, the rabbits have eaten our seedlings and the gophers are giving me a straight up headache.

On to the party! The Moonsville Collective will be playing an acoustic set. Click on the link to watch a great video. Venissimo cheese shop will be there with their product. We might have a few other local partners popping up with some delicious treats. KYL's Chef Will will be preparing a wonderful menu of in season delights and The Organic Cellar is on board to pour some organic and biodynamic wine for you.

This is going to be a great event for our wonderful little farm. Please come and make a tax deductible donation to Long Beach Local and help Farm Lot 59 keep on keeping on. Once we are able to safely get our crops in the ground we will be able to sell this beautiful produce to you. We have weekly produce boxes available for sale along with eggs from our hens and honey from our bee hives. You can read more about that on our site under Farm Lot 59 or come to the party and ask all the questions.
If possible rsvp by tomorrow May 4th. See you on May 10th.

Thanks so much-

Venissimo cheese shop will be there with their product, until a few weeks ago I didn't know we had a cheese shop in Long Beach. I went there the same day I found out. They have a wonderful selection of cheeses from all over the world. I am glad to know there is an alternative to Whole Foods for good cheese. The Organic Cellar is also on board to pour some organic and biodynamic wine for you.
