We bringing our Outdoor Classroom to life!

There is just one more day in 2016 to make a tax-deductible donation toward our Living Classroom. Our new teaching garden will expand our educational programs and support the next generation of citizen farmers.

Your gift of any size helps connect students of all ages to the experience of growing, harvesting and learning about fresh organic food.

Thank you for your support. We are so grateful for our generous community, and excited to grow even more in 2017.

See you on the farm!

Article 1

Help us grow something inspirational.:
When I think of Farm Lot 59, my mind fills with the juxtaposition of grit, tenacity and wonder.  It takes a special mix of characteristics to grow hearty organic produce in this environment, and it takes a singular sense of purpose to simultaneously grow a community of students and urban farmers and supporters.  In the abstract, it’s impressive.  But when I visit the farm, I am not only impressed, but I am inspired.  The uphill battles and transformational challenges I might face at work or in my personal life melt away and everything seems possible.  Seeing barren land transformed into productive soil and then working farm and then beautiful veggies and then plated food leads me to believe that determination and thoughtful effort is life giving and life changing.  So I go to the farm to be inspired.  And I support Farm Lot 59 and Sasha’s hard work because I want that experience for kids and citizen farmers of all ages.  I want my neighbors and fellow citizens to learn how to grow something from nothing and be able to enjoy the fruits of their labor.  Please join me in supporting Farm Lot 59 – a unique slice of our community that will continue to blossom and inspire as long as we are there to help sustain it.

From Dave Clark, Board of Directors:
I spent thirty-two years teaching in the inner city for Los Angeles Unified School District. It's important to me that students receive a well-rounded education, not just things they learn from a book inside a classroom. One afternoon I took my students outside to work in the school's garden. While weeding, one student discovered the root on a dandelion and was startled to find it looked like a carrot. I mentioned that's how carrots grow, and the look of shock on his face, as well as the other students in the group led me to understand that most children don't really know where their food comes from. That is why after I retired, I knew that getting involved with the Living Classroom at Farm Lot 59 was important.

Your donation to Farm Lot 59 will give many students the opportunity to discover little things, like carrots grow in the ground, but so much more about plants and the food they eat. Donate today!

Any amount will help! Donations will help provide irrigation, plants, tools, and most importantly teachers and students. We are currently developing a curriculum that is aligned to Common Core Science and Math Standards. You can help bring this program to life, and be instrumental in potentially changing the lives of a multitude of young learners.

Donations made to Farm Lot 59 are tax deductible, please consider donating today.
I appreciate your attention to this matter, and remember you can help keep our vision alive. Our dedicated farmer works hard every day, and because of you we will be able to add teachers and students into this community on the Farm.

Sincerely,
Dave Clark

PS Remember, you are our best advocate for keeping our urban farm active, and helping us provide much needed education for our youth.

When I started Farm Lot 59 in 2010 I had no idea the impact it would make on the community. I thought that I was going to have a small farm to feed as many interested people as possible. It was just a simple idea with a lot of work ahead.

Cut to 2016 and the need for an open space that is also a working farm is greater than ever. Long Beach has agriculture roots that have been long since forgotten. We bring it back everyday introducing the next generation to fresh food and nature.

Farm Lot 59 exists for the community for so many reasons. Its a healing place, a place where people can come and connect with each other and with the food that nourishes them. Its a place of inspiration for your own life to grow something or pass the knowledge on.

We teach, farm, feed, connect, build and party. We couldn't do it without you, YOU make it a true community farm.

Donate with us to help us in 2017. With your donation dollars we will be able to teach more and bring our Living Classroom to life!

what a week

Hello Long Beach Locals:
What a week we have had. Thank you so much to everyone who came to Long Beach Creamery for our #givingtuesday event. It was so nice to see all of you and catch up over the best ice cream in town. Giving Tuesday is over but we hope you will continue to think of us during the rest of this giving season.

The outpouring of love after our recent vandalism was so fantastic. Thanks for everyone for reaching out.

I'd like to invite you to come to the farm this weekend, we will be putting everything back together, painting over the spray paint, shoveling rocks to fix the greenhouse floor and working on building our hoop house.

Drop in hours are Friday 9-3, Saturday all day and Sunday 10- till whenever. Sunday we are also going to BBQ. You are welcome to bring a dish to eat or share.

Hope to see all of you this weekend. Thanks again for all the love!
