Yesterday after a wonderful weekend camping I went back to work to find the farm had been vandalized. Farmstand 59 was tagged on the garage door, our hand painted sign thanking EDCO for their donations, the dumpster and our metal sign were all damaged. So sad that people disrespect the farm like this. Most of you have been on this farm journey with us since 2010 but those of you who are new to Farm Lot 59, this is nothing new. We have been burglarized, threatened, vandalized and felt insecure at our parcel since inception. The pro's about our location are that is a little remote slice of the city. The cons of the location are the same. We are situated in Willow Springs Gulch which is for the most part an undeveloped piece of Park & Rec. Until the park is cleaned up, the main gate has regular hours, the public is welcome to come and enjoy the space it will remain unsafe. Our long conversation with LBPD has always been the same. More people need to utalitize Willow Springs Gulch. More people need to report bad behavior on site but the most important thing is for us to have more electricity. Its crucial that we install spotlights and cameras. These things might continue to happen but at least we will be able to abate more and report with footage. Sorry to bring the sad news. We will clean up the graffiti and continue to work on the farm but if your in the area come by and give the farm a little hug. Its important that this farm not only thrives in our urban landscape but remains a safe space for all. Thanks for the love- Sasha Kanno Farmer - Founder - Farm Lot 59 |
