FARM LOT 59: Farm Lot Happenings

It seems redundant to say that 2020 has been a challenge for all of us. When our restaurant partners began the roller coaster ride of opening and closing back in March we quickly shifted gears and started making meals for the residents in transitional housing at the Elizabeth Ann Seton House. When Seton House had to reduce capacity due to the pandemic, we again adapted. We are now also providing prepared meals and raw produce to our neighbors at the 14th Street Community Center, which serves as a food pantry for anyone in need in the community.

In a typical year we host three big parties at the farm. Farm Lot Eats is our annual fundraiser where we hold a silent auction and all our wonderful restaurant partners make unique dishes from the farm's bounty along with music and cocktails. We also host two Roast events that are more like a concert in the park style event where we welcome you to the farm for food and music and to simply enjoy the farm that you love and support all year.

We also host community workshops on topics that range from health, gardening, natural crafts, and food policy. We host scouts, youth engagement projects, weekly volunteers, and workforce development. This year, in contrast, we have been limited to small, socially-distanced volunteer days where dedicated volunteers have donated their time to help us maintain the farm and continue feeding those in need.

We continue to stand by until we are able to welcome you to your farm again know that we are still here and are missing you terribly. We hope 2021 will be the change we all need as we adapt to what will be the new normal. What you can count on for next year is, that with your support, we will continue to be your community farm, where we foster creative ideas, serve as an incubator for entrepreneurs, and provide open space for everyone to come and enjoy.
