May 19, 2014 CONTACT: Sasha Kanno 562-230-7207 sashakano@mac.com   Farm Lot 59 will celebrate the start of summer Saturday, June 14 by hosting “Second Saturday Market Place,” at its own farm located at 2174 California Ave, Long Beach from 10am-1pm.

The Second Saturday Market Place will feature farm fresh fare, including organic fruits, vegetables, flowers, and eggs, as well as farm tours, and hot breakfast.

Judita Wignall (rawjudita.com), a chef and author of Going Raw, will be on hand to demonstrate raw food recipes using ingredients from the farm and to sign copies of her books while DJ Mr. Bill spins music for visitors.

The Ladyfarmer, a local mobile café, will be serving hot breakfast made from farm fresh produce and eggs, and Pop Up Coffee will provide coffee and tea.

Other merchandise will also be available at the Market Place, including heritage walnut oil, handmade produce bags, heirloom seeds, and more.

Farm Lot 59 Founder Sasha Kanno is eager for the public to come visit and support the local farm, adding, “I'm excited to meet new people and reconnect with friends of the farm. Last year, we hosted Second Saturday's in November and December, and community members were really supportive.”

At 10:30am, visitors can take a 30-minute farm tour of the 1-acre lot for a $5.00 suggested donation (nobody will be turned away). “We have very happy and healthy hens and a beautiful little farm. We love showing guests around the farm to see our growing practices and operations up close,” says Kanno.

Most produce grown at Farm Lot 59 is heirloom variety and grown using biodynamic practices, which are considered “beyond organic,” making the food fresher and more nutritious. Future Saturday Market Place events will have different special guests, which will be announced on the farm’s website, longbeachlocal.org. The monthly event schedule ensures that the farm can produce enough supply for Farm lot 59. As Kanno explains, “Our members have come to expect only the best from us. We harvest at the peak of ripeness and only offer the best on and off farm products.” Farm fresh aficionados can also learn more about annual Farm Lot 59 membership, which costs $25.00 and gives members 10% off farm purchases and class registration, and invitations to special events.
