Join my good friends Aliye and Bobbie for a demo style cooking class at Farm Lot 59. Aliye is a long time friend and one of the first supporters of our farm from way back when it was just a vision on a trash pile. She's doing inspiring things over at A Good Carrot, and Bobbie runs the Belmont Athletic Club Wellness Spa, which we all need ! See you on the farm!
"Fresh From the Farm: Main Course Salads You Will Eat All Summer Long", learn to prepare salad dishes with seasonal ingredients that require minimal preparation, have maximum flavor, and will leave you feeling satisfied.
We believe that food is our best medicine and in our businesses empower people to take charge of their health by taking charge of what they eat. In addition to food preparation, we will talk about the health benefits of including more vegetables in our diets, how to select fresh vegetables at the farmer's market, and about techniques and tips for including more home-cooked meals in our busy lives.
The class will be held at Long Beach's own community urban farm, Farm Lot 59, which is headed by local farmer, Sasha Kanno. In this beautiful farm setting, we will learn about the importance and benefits of buying local food.
This event is a fundraiser for Farm Lot 59, as good food ultimately comes from the dirt and the community that supports it. A portion of every ticket sold will go directly to the farm to help sustain their Outdoor Education Programs.
Menu: Will consist of three salad dishes which will be determined the week before the class, based upon what is available fresh at the farm!
Due to road work on California Ave, the farm is closed.
Thank you to the city for adding a much needed sidewalk and curb and to Edison for adding street lights to a very dark road. Its already been 3 weeks so once I have an official update I will let you know.
Classes, lunches, field trips and farm tours will resume once the street is open again but for now there are no farm activities.
If you are looking for the free mulch, its available at the Willow Springs Park parking lot.
